Who Dr. Nishant Thapar Is

Dr. Nishant Thapar, radiologist and founder of Edge Imaging and Diagnostics, MBBS and MD in Radiodiagnosis, West Delhi

Dr. Nishant Thapar is a radiologist and the founder of Edge Imaging & Diagnostics. He holds an MBBS and an MD in Radiodiagnosis, and serves as Managing Director and Chief Radiologist of the group.

Most diagnostic centres are built around a machine. This one was built around a question that a practising radiologist kept running into: what happens to a patient after the scan is done, and why does a correct report so often fail to reach the person who needs to act on it?

That question shapes how the centres run — reports written in language a patient can follow, a phone call to the referring doctor when a finding is critical, and appointment slots long enough to do a study properly rather than quickly.

It is also the subject of the book he wrote for referring doctors, The Right Scan.

An MD in Radiodiagnosis is the postgraduate qualification that trains a doctor to interpret X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI studies and to perform image-guided procedures. It is a clinical specialisation in its own right: the radiologist is the doctor who reads the images and writes the report your treating doctor then acts on. The fellowship in obstetrics and abdominal imaging adds focused training in two of the areas patients most often need — pregnancy scanning and abdominal imaging.

His Book: The Right Scan

Front cover of The Right Scan: The Hidden Science of Referrals, Retention and Radiology, a handbook for referring doctors by Dr. Nishant Thapar, MBBS, MD (Radiodiagnosis)

The Right Scan: The Hidden Science of Referrals, Retention & Radiology was published in October 2025 by BlueRose Publishers (India and U.K.), ISBN 978-93-7310-411-9.

It is not a book for patients. It is written for referring doctors — physicians, gynaecologists, orthopaedic surgeons and paediatricians who send patients out for a scan and then lose sight of what happens next.

Its argument is blunt: the biggest threat to a practice is not a shortage of patients, it is referral leakage — the patient who goes for a scan, has a confusing experience, and quietly never comes back.

In an internal 2024 audit of 87 referring doctors across Delhi NCR, described in the book, the pattern was consistent:

  • 74% reported no radiologist call for critical findings
  • 68% reported waiting more than 24 hours for a report
  • 74% found the language in reports confusing
  • 56% said the patient never returned after the scan

The book also draws on published Indian patient-satisfaction research, and reaches a conclusion that runs against the usual assumption: patients do not complain about cost. They complain about confusion, delays and dignity.

From the publisher’s description: “The Right Scan is more than a handbook — it is a blueprint for reshaping the doctor-diagnostic partnership. Through real audits, case studies, and patient stories, it highlights the pitfalls of delayed reports, poor communication, and confusing medical language that erode trust. Dr. Nishant Thapar provides actionable solutions, refined templates, and system-based strategies that help doctors save time, improve accuracy, and strengthen patient loyalty. Covering everything from fetal imaging to PET-CT and interventional radiology, this book equips clinicians with practical tools to scale their practice while delivering clarity, speed, and confidence in patient care.”

For Referring Doctors

Dr. Nishant Thapar, radiologist and author of The Right Scan, chief radiologist at Edge Imaging and Diagnostics, West Delhi

If you refer patients for imaging, the things the book argues for are the things the centres are built to do:

  • A call when it matters. Critical findings are telephoned to the referring doctor, not left sitting in a report.
  • Reports the patient can actually follow, so the explaining does not fall back on you.
  • Same-day reporting on most scans, so your clinical decision is not stalled for days.
  • Female staff for intimate scans, and prep instructions given before the patient arrives.
  • The report sent to you as well as the patient, so the referral loop closes.

Doctors who would like to discuss a case, arrange a protocol for a specific patient, or request a copy of the book can reach the team directly on 9555999960.
